There was too simply too much great music that I listened to in 2012 for me to contain it to a 10 album/5 concert list. Hopefully this isn’t too much of a slog to wade through. As always, this is a list of “favourites” and not necessarily a list of “best”. Judge away and enjoy!

Albums

I could have listed 100 albums with ease, but there was a natural break in the list after The Walkmen, and 50 seemed like a nice, round number to use. Honorable mention to Solange, Jessica Pratt, Code Orange Kids, and all the other albums that came out in the last few weeks that I wasn’t able to spend enough time with and were excluded as a result.

Concerts

I went on quite a few trips to see shows this year, and there was simply too much to try to jumble all together into one comprehensive list. Sorting them by city seemed like the easiest way to do it. For acts that I saw in multiple cities, I went with which show was my favourite of the two (thus Refused, Paul McCartney, and The Smashing Pumpkins didn’t make my Edmonton list). I picked 5 for each city because 5 concerts is the standard used for the rest of the club’s lists, and 10 for Edmonton because I didn’t want it to look like I ignored my city this year. Also, there’s a huge asterisk with the Edmonton list as I’m posting it a week before the Japandroids show that will surely be excellent.
